You’re ready to take that big step to purchase your first home. With so much information on the internet nowadays, or with your friends and family giving you their “expert” advice (because they just bought their home) you might feel overwhelmed with information and confused about where to begin. So before taking that first step, here are three essential tips for first time home buyers. Hopefully, these tips will get you started on the right path.
1. Get Pre-approved.
If you’re financing, get pre-approved to have a realistic idea of what your budget is. Perhaps you can afford more, or less, than what you had initially thought. This way you do not miss the opportunity of finding the right home.
2. Work with an Agent.
You should always work with an agent. As a first time home buyer, the entire process of purchasing a home can be a bit overwhelming so let a real estate professional hold your hands and guide you from the beginning to the end. Additionally, as a buyer, there is no broker’s fee for you. The seller pays the commission whether it is just to his/her agent or to your agent as well.
3. Stay within Your Means.
You should buy within your means. With so many unpredictable factors- whether it’s the market, or an unforeseen event in your life- it’s best to stay in a comfortable place instead of stretching yourself out.
